MayoFlux case study
Kennametal needed a visual way to explain a technical product, system, process, or differentiator that would be difficult to show clearly with live footage alone.
Kennametal works in industrial tooling and advanced manufacturing. MayoFlux framed the work for the audience, use case, and product context behind the assignment.
CAD or product references, technical notes, brand direction, sales context, engineering feedback, and available media or scripts.
MayoFlux shaped the story, prepared assets, built simulation or particle work where needed, then handled animation, lighting, rendering, compositing, and review cycles.
Product animation masters, web-ready embeds, sales or trade show versions, and visual assets that can be reused across launch, training, and follow-up.
A reusable visual asset for show-floor attention, sales follow-up, web pages, and stakeholder conversations around the product.
Kennametal asked Mayoflux to spotlight KenCast® — a wear-resistant material that keeps heavy-duty equipment running at peak efficiency. The brief called for visuals that show how microscopic hardness translates into fewer change-outs on massive machines. Starting from an outline, Mayoflux started with an outline and built a macro-to-micro sequence that zooms from the massive industrial field down to individual tungsten-carbide particles.
The biggest challenge was portraying hardness, an invisible property, without overwhelming viewers with data. Animated stress maps, color-graded force vectors, and slow-motion chip formation told the story clearly and kept file sizes manageable. The finished film premiered at MINExpo and has since become Kennametal’s go-to explainer for material-science innovations.
